NATCHITOCHES – Peyton Guidry hauled down a career-high number of ballcarriers in his final collegiate game Saturday afternoon.
He grabbed his share of Player of the Week awards in the days that followed.
Guidry, a Cut Off-South Lafourche product, earned STATS LLC National Defensive Player of the Week honors as well as the final Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week acclaim after an 18-tackle, one-interception performance in Northwestern State's 38-21 victory against Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.
Guidry collected his first outright Louisiana Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week honor Tuesday morning.
His 18 tackles rank as the 14
th-best single-game performance in FCS football this season, and he was a key part of a pair of pivotal goal line stands.
Making his final appearance in a Demons uniform, Guidry added three tackles for loss as Northwestern State captured Chief Caddo for the third time in the past five seasons.
The STATS award marks the second time in the season's final four weeks Guidry has been honored on the national level.
Guidry was tabbed the FCS National Defensive Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com following his 14-tackle performance in a 10-7 win at Houston Baptist on Oct. 28. Against the Huskies, Guidry added two forced fumbles and 1.5 sacks in NSU's first road win of the season.
He also was the LSWA Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Houston Baptist.
A four-year letterman, Guidry finished his senior season with a team-leading 85 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. His 9.5 tackles for loss were second on the team behind Obinna Iheoma's 11.
