CLINTON, Miss. – The Northwestern State cross country teams continued to trend upward Saturday with solid performances at the Mississippi College Invitational.

The Lady Demons have now finished top-five in every race this season after a fourth-place finish Saturday morning in the field of 29 teams.

The women's team combined for a time of 1:42:08 in the 5K event, edging out fellow Louisiana schools UL-Monroe and Louisiana Tech.

The men's team also finished top-five, taking fifth overall in its first foray at the 8K distance this season.

The MC Invitational served as the penultimate meet before NSU heads to the Southland Conference Championships on Oct. 27 in Abilene, Texas. Second-year head coach Chris Sauer likes the attitude of his team going forward.

"We wanted to use this meet as a stepping stone going into conference, and we know that we have been gearing everything to prepare for the conference meet," Sauer said. "The team, as a whole, has a good enough head on its shoulders to know what we have been training for, and I look forward to seeing how we compete."

NSU will not compete again until the conference meet..
