AUSTIN, Texas -- Stormy weather resulted in a disjointed competitive schedule for much of Friday at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, but when the skies began clearing,
Aaron Williams provided Northwestern State's highlight performance of the meet.
Williams posted a 52-4 mark in the triple jump Section A competition late Friday afternoon, a half-inch shy of his personal record set last year indoors at LSU. His performance in one of the country's top collegiate meets of the season was the fourth-best among college competitors and placed him sixth overall.
Por'sha Thomas went 41-6 1/2 to take ninth in the Section A class of the women's triple jump. Fellow Lady Demon senior
Breann Denson was seventh in Section B with a 39-9 14 best mark, interrupted by the morning storms. Like Denson,
Emmanuel Williams had his jump schedule disrupted and still posted a 51-3 mark in Section B of the men's triple contested through delays. His second place was the best finish by any NSU competitor Friday.
Sprinters had their events started, stalled, stopped and resumed. In many cases, it led to less than peak marks. Sophomore
Amir James didn't advance in the 100 meter dash although he was 14th among 65 contestants, as he clocked 10.57 which was the 14th fastest time, and 0.21 behind his season-best time last week.
In the women's 100 Section B,
Jermeka McBride was narrowly denied advancement. She was 10th in 11.84 among a 55-competitor field, just 0.01 away from advancing to Saturday's final.
In the women's Section A javelin, also stopped and stalled by weather,
Ashley Aldredge finished ninth with a 146-10 throw.
Freshman
Destiney Myers took sixth in the Section B women's shot put with a 43-9 3/4 mark.
In the Section B men's long jump,
Emmanuel Williams was third at 24-4 1/4 while his twin
Aaron Williams finished 10th at 22-11 3/4 in a storm-interrupted competition Friday morning.
