LAKE CHARLES -- Freshman Zach Rider's bases-loaded RBI single in the 15
th inning lifted McNeese State to a 2-1 win against Northwestern State on Friday night in the opening game of a Southland Conference series.

The Demons fall to 14-12 overall and 5-5 in conference play. McNeese improves to 14-9 overall and 7-3 in conference placy.

Northwestern State broke a scoreless tie on
Nick Heath's 14
th-inning RBI single and had the Cowboys down to their last out with a runner on first in the bottom of the 14
th inning.

However, Will Fox and Dustin Duhon delivered two-out singles off
Nathan Jones (1-1) with Duhon's base hit tying the game.

In the 15
th, Connor Crane drew a leadoff walk and stole second base and third base on the front end of a double steal. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Zach Rider slapped the first pitch he saw from
Nathan Aultman to right field for the game-winning hit.

Northwestern State starter
Adam Oller and McNeese's Kaleb Fontenot locked up in a pitchers' duel through eight-plus innings with each starter posting zero after zero.

Austin Reich followed Oller and worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the ninth, sending the game to extra innings where the Demons continued to duck in and out of trouble until the 15
th.

In the 14
th, NSU finally solved Collin Kober, as
Cade Jones led off with a single off Kober's glove. Two batters later,
Spencer Goodwin singled to right and Heath followed with a single to left over a leaping Fox at shortstop.

Miller Parker's aggressive running paid off as he slid home with the go-ahead run.

The series continues Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Demons sending left-hander
Chase Hymel (1-3, 3.77) to the mound against McNeese State right-hander Bryce Kingsley (4-0, 2.12). The game will air on 100.7 FM KZBL in Natchitoches and streamed live on NSUDemons.com.
