NATCHITOCHES – As the Northwestern State football season winds down, the NSU athletic department's promotional calendar has reached its peak.
From Military Appreciation Day to the culmination of "Fork Cancer" week, Saturday's 6 p.m. game against Nicholls is loaded with things to do and people to honor during the "NSU Challenge" matchup.
There will be $6 general admission tickets available for all military, active and retired. Additionally, military members are invited to attend a free tailgate party at the Collins Alumni Pavilion outside Turpin Stadium.
At 4 p.m., there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the new ROTC rappelling tower located at the northwest corner of Turpin Stadium. Northwestern State also will continue to sell baseball caps through Operation Hat Trick, which donates $1 of every purchase to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Saturday's game also serves as the closing point of "Fork Cancer" week on the NSU campus. NSU will offer $6 general admission tickets to cancer survivors.
Northwestern State has partnered with the Natchitoches Corvette Club for Vic's Vettes Corvette Show, which will be held before the game with the winners being honored during the game. Fans may purchase people's choice tickets with proceeds benefitting the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Fork Cancer week began Sunday and continues Thursday when the Northwestern State volleyball team hosts Abilene Christian before concluding with the Demons' game against Nicholls.
During the first first-quarter timeout of Saturday night's game, there will be a balloon release in memory of those lost to cancer and to honor those who have survived.
There will be plenty of activities for the youngest Demon fans Saturday as the matchup will take place on Kiwanis Kids Day.
There are $5 tickets available for children, but attendees must RSVP to 318-357-4099 to claim the special offer. Members of Vic's Kids Club can participate for free but still must RSVP to claim their spot.
Kids Day activities begin a 3 p.m. in the tailgating area and include trick or treating throughout the area as well as various family-friendly games. Additionally, hot dogs and chips will be provided for the children, who need to check in by 3:30 p.m.
Saturday also serves as N-Side View day on the Northwestern State campus. N-Side View provides high school juniors and seniors with a chance to tour the NSU campus, meet current students and submit applications to the university.
