NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State athletics department is making a special appeal to NSU Athletic alumni, particularly those who competed for the Demons in 1974 through 1984, to return to campus Saturday, Oct. 17 for Homecoming activities.
On Homecoming morning at 10 a.m. in the Magale Recital Hall, the N-Club Hall of Fame ceremonies will be held, open to everyone at no charge. A special invitation goes to the athletes from 1974-84 who competed for football coach A.L. Williams, who is receiving the N-Club Distinguished Service Award, and those who competed in football and track with two-sport All-American Joe Delaney.
The release Aug. 19 of the ESPN 30 For 30 short film "Delaney" telling the remarkable story of the late, heroic Kansas City Chiefs star, coached by Williams in football and Jerry Dyes in track, has provided an additional pull for teammates to gather at NSU's 2015 Homecoming. About two dozen attended the Aug. 4 screening of "Delaney" on campus.
Reunion activities for those Demons are being coordinated by assistant athletics director
Haley Blount. Anyone wanting to participate should contact her at 318-357-4278 or by email at
blounth@nsula.edu by Oct. 14.
The N-Club Hall of Fame induction class of 2015 includes basketball stars Charles Bloodworth and Lisa Brewer, football record-setters Brad Laird and All-American Clarence Matthews, two-time All-American triple jumper Eric Lancelin, soccer's Holly Horn and tennis star and coach Willie Paz.
Assistant athletics director and NCAA compliance director
Dustin Eubanks, who is nearing two decades of service to NSU Athletics, will be presented honorary N Club membership.
