Regan Kaufman and the Northwestern State baseball team will look to extend its three-game win streak with a three-game series against Stephen F. Austin that starts at Brown-Stroud Field on Friday at 6:30 in Southland Conference action.
The second game of the series is slated for 2:00 on Saturday and the final contest is on Sunday at 1 o'clock.
Kaufman finished NSU's (10-9, 2-1 SLC) game over LSU-Alexandria Wednesday night with six runs batted in on a grand slam and two-run single. The Demons took the game 16-9, and collected 16 team hits. In their last conference series, the Demons lost game one to Oral Roberts, but took the final two to win the series.
SFA (8-10, 1-2) comes in after it split a two-game set with nationally-ranked Texas Tech. The Lumberjacks lost to the Red Raiders 20-4 on Tuesday and beat them 6-3 on Wednesday. The 'Jacks downed McNeese State in the first game of their conference series, and lost the final two.
Four Demons have batting averages over .300.
Chase Daughdrill leads the way with a .344 average followed by
Cort Brinson (.333),
Edwin Gomez (.323), and Dugas (.306). Kaufman's six RBIs puts him second for the Demons, who are led by Daughdrill with 16. Both Gomez and Dugas have 14 runs.
Adam Oller (2-0, 2.52 earned run average) will start for NSU on Friday night. He has six appearances and three starts with 13 strikeouts and five walks. Cameron Gann (3-0, 1.38) is the projected starter for the Lumberjacks Friday night. He has five starts in as many appearances with 27 strikeouts and nine walks.
Matthew Dickey leads the Lumberjack offense with a .338 batting average, and Nick Ramos also has a .300 average. Mackenzie Handel has 13 RBIs on the season, and Joseph Olson had 10.
The Demons still have not determined who will start on the mound for Northwestern State in the final two games.
