NATCHITOCHES – Only two rebounds shy of becoming the seventh member of the 1,000-point/700-rebound club,
Trudy Armstead will lead the Northwestern State women's basketball team against Nicholls Saturday at 1 o'clock in Southland Conference action.
NSU (12-10, 5-5 SLC) suffered a tough 59-57 loss to McNeese State on Thursday. Cecile Okoye dropped in a jumper with 2.8 seconds remaining and
Janelle Perez's half-court shot fell just short as time expired.
It was only the second home loss NSU suffered in 10 games this season.
Nicholls (12-9, 7-3 SLC) took a double-overtime win at Stephen F. Austin. The Colonels are third in the conference standings and the Lady Demons are seventh.
Armstead's 698 rebounds put her at 10
th place on the all-time rebounding list at Northwestern State. She also has 1,327 career points, which places her 16
th on NSU's all-time scoring list.
She averages 14 points a game, behind
Keisha Lee who sits a 15 points per game.
Janelle Perez also averages in double-figures at 10.1 points a contest.
Armstead leads the Lady Demons in rebounds at six per game. Freshman
Kourtney Pennywell averages 5.9 rebounds a game.
As a team, Northwestern State averages 64 points a game and shoots 41 percent from the field. It also shoots 32 percent from 3-point range.
Emani White leads the Colonels in scoring with 19.2 points per game. Jenny Nash follows in scoring at 10 points per game and leads Nicholls in rebounds at 5.7 a contest.
KK Babin averages 9.7 points per game and 4.1 assists a game.
As a team, the Colonels scored 69 points per game and shoot at a 38 percent clip from the field. They also shoot 34 percent from 3-point field.
The game is the final of a four-game homestand for the Lady Demons in which NSU is currently 2-1. Next up for NSU is a five-game road swing that starts with Sam Houston on Feb. 13 and Lamar on Feb. 15.
Northwestern State has two more games to host, Central Arkansas (3/6) and (3/8).
