NATCHITOCHES -- After topping all collegiate competitors at The Cupid Classic indoor track and field meet last Friday with nationally-ranked marks in the long jump and triple jump, Northwestern State junior
Emmanuel Williams won Southland Conference male Indoor Athlete of the Week honors Wednesday.
Williams was second in both the long and triple jump at the Cupid Classic in Birmingham, hosted by Southern Mississippi. Only unattached competitors had better jumps.
Williams soared 24-9 in the long jump, a mark which ranks first in the Southland and 25th nationally. His triple jump mark of 50-1 3/4 is second in the conference and 42nd nationally. The top 16 marks in each event will reach the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.

A native of Duson and product of Acadiana High School, Williams will join his NSU teammates Friday in Baton Rouge at the LSU Twilight meet.
The Demons and Lady Demons compete next Wednesday and Thursday at the Southland Indoor Championships back in Birmingham at the CrossPlex, the same facility where the Cupid Classic was staged.
