Pardon the sense of deja vu' because you've seen this before

"Demon Dust" is not an original idea. But it's a good one, we think.

Over a decade ago, with a redesign of NSUDemons.com, we began the Demon Dust feature and we are reviving it now.

"DD" provides us latitude to express our perspectives on topics centered around Northwestern State Athletics.

It may be what journalists call a "sidebar" written with a feature slant, adding coverage to an event.

It could be a longer feature story that also weaves in the writer's opinion.

It certainly could be an opinion column from an NSU administrator, coach, student-athlete, supporter or observer, such as Demon Sports Network talent Patrick Netherton and Tony Taglavore.

For example, there were plenty of snapshots to weave together from the immediate aftermath of the Demon football team's 30-27 win in September at Louisiana Tech, but really, no avenue to deliver the content. LIfelong supporter Layne Miller had pointed out the void this summer when he suggested bringing back "DD," which faded away about 4-5 years ago after a nice 5-6 year run.

With the recent addition of acclaimed former sportswriter Jason Pugh to the NSU athletic staff, there's more opportunity to enjoy compelling reflections on the Demons and Lady Demons with the relaunch of Demon Dust.

Director of athletics Greg Burke once was a paid sportswriter, and a young sports information director at Hiram College back in his native Buckeye state. Associate AD Adam Jonson spent five years out of high school working in sports information here and at North Florida, after considering internship opportunities at Vanderbilt and Notre Dame. Guess going to the beach sounded better?

Assistant AD Haley Blount has it in her genetic pool. Father Terry gained fame as a sportswriter in Houston and the DFW Metroplex, and became nationally known as a motorsports writer for ESPN.com. Now, he tracks the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, and keeps Haley updated on former Demon standout Jeremy Lane's status in Seattle, as the ESPN.com primary beat reporter for Seahawks coverage.

We'll have a variety of voices providing content. We'll also revive The Daily Demon Blog, which will be a platform for quick observations and updates that might include activities on road trips, visits from former athletes, a photo of a snowball skirmish at the team hotel, or vignettes that won't fit in 140-character Tweets.  We will be letting you know when there's fresh material, on both fronts, with the @NSUDemons Twitter account and our Northwestern State Demons Facebook page.

There's so much that crosses our paths regularly that doesn't have a pathway for us to deliver through a standard news release or a video package. We hope to get the best material possible on your computer with Demon Dust and The Daily Demon Blog – again.
