NATCHITOCHES – Mitch Landry and Annie Fillers of the Northwestern State Demon and Lady Demon cross country teams earned Southland Conference Athlete of the Week honors after their performance at the Louisiana Tech Mook 5 Invitational on Saturday.
 
"We're really impressed with where Mitch and Annie are competing right now, especially since it's early in the season," said head track and field coach Mike Heimermann. " We look forward to the upcoming season and what it has to bring, especially with these two athletes."

Landry posted a strong outing in the team's season-opening meet with an eighth place overall finish, completing the 5000 meter course in 15:58.93 to finish second for the Demons.
 
Fillers, a freshman from Grapevine, Texas, crossed the line first for the Lady Demons to finish 10th overall in 20:49.20.
 
Both teams will compete on Saturday at the McNeese Cowboy 5K Stampede in Lake Charles.
