NATCHITOCHES – Middle Blocker Glynna Johnson led the Northwestern State volleyball team to its fourth win in a row with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-17) defeat of Southland Conference foe University of New Orleans Saturday afternoon at Prather Coliseum.

The Lady Demons improve to 5-8 overall, 2-0 in the Southland as the Privateers fall to 2-12, 0-2 SLC.

"The thing that stuck out most for me in this match was that 60-65% of our kills came from the middle and right sides, which has been a point of emphasis for us," said fourth year co-head coach Hugh Hernesman. "We can't be so reliant on our outsides, not that they can't handle it, but it's important for us to be a balanced team."

NSU maintained total control in sets one and two. The Lady Demons led 14-4 early in the first and didn't let up much from there as they continued to dominate, finishing the set 25-13. NSU put up a match-high, seven-point run in the second, putting them up by seven en-route to a 25-16 win heading into the break.

UNO put up a fight in the third, notching two lead changes before NSU went on a five-point run to lead by three. The Lady Demons consistently racked up points to end the set 25-17.

Johnson knocked down a season-high 11 kills and .643 attack percentage to lead the attack. Setter Emily Johnson dished out a career-high 42 assists, while adding seven digs, two service aces and two blocks on the day.

"Glynna had her best match of the season, said Hernesman. "She's been getting better and better every weekend, so it's been fun to watch her grow."

Caiti O'Connell also racked up 11 kills to match Johnson (Glynna) and led NSU with three service aces.

Libero Keelie Arneson dug up 15 Privateer attacks to hold down the defense.

The Lady Demons take a break in their conference schedule to travel to in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Tuesday at seven o'clock before returning home on Saturday to host SLC rival Stephen F. Austin at 2:00 at Prather.
