Radio coverage of the 2013 Northwestern State football season will reach throughout north and central Louisiana, into east Texas and southern Arkansas, with an expanded Demon Sports Network footprint, athletic director
Greg Burke said Saturday.
Listeners in at least 26 parishes, stretching east of Monroe and south of Bunkie and DeRidder, will be able to follow the 12-game NSU football slate on four Demon Sports Network stations, flagshipped by 100.7 FM KZBL in Natchitoches. News Radio 710 KEEL AM in Shreveport and its' 50,000 watt daytime signal greatly expands that reach for all of four and parts of three more NSU games that have 6 p.m. kickoffs before Daylight Savings Time ends.
Two new affiliates join the network: 50,000-watt KRLQ-FM 94.1 of Ruston and KBKK-FM 105.5 in Alexandria. Along with KZBL, owned and operated by Baldridge-Dumas Communications, Many's KTEZ-FM 99.9 and KDBV-FM 92.7 in Leesville, both BDC stations, will again carry Demon football in 2013.
Veteran Shreveport broadcasters Patrick Netherton and Tony Taglavore will be joined on the broadcast team by a new voice, former Demon linebacker Richard de Vargas, after the most longstanding member of the football announcing crew, ex-NSU receiver Jack “Britt” Brittain Jr., has yielded his role as sideline reporter.
Davey Antilley remains as the broadcast engineer and statistician heading into the season opener on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Missouri State.
Addtionally, Burke announced the broadcast partnership with BDC Radio as the flagship station has been extended through the 2017-18 athletic year.
“We're very pleased about the Demon Sports Network not only with its exciting expansion of coverage this fall, but for the long-term future providing quality broadcast coverage of Northwestern State sports,” said Burke. “We are happy to extend our partnership with Baldridge-Dumas Communications. Tedd Dumas, Rhonda Leach and everyone at BDC and their three network stations have been valued team members for NSU Athletics and we appreciate what they mean to us.
“Considering the footprint we reach with KEEL, KRLQ and KBKK, the Demon Sports Network is blanketing the primary market for Northwestern State University's student body and alumni base,” said Burke. “We have a top-quality announcing team to assure a highly informative and exciting, entertaining broadcast every time the Demons take the field this fall.”
All games can be heard online at no charge through the NSUDemons.com website. Live streaming video is available for the six home games.
