NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State co-head coaches Brooke and
Scott Stoehr announced that Ruston product Chelsea Rogers is the eighth signee to join the women's basketball team for the 2013-14 season.
The 5-9 guard averaged eight points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game at Jacksonville College where she was named team captain.
"We are very excited to add Chelsea to the NSU family. She is a Louisiana girl and appreciates the tradition and history of the program,” said
Brooke Stoehr. “She has developed a great deal the last two seasons at Jacksonville College under Coach Lynn Nabi and Coach Leasa Ailshie, and we feel she is going to be a great addition both on and off the court.”
While at Ruston High School she was named the all-district and was a member of the National Honor Society.
“Chelsea brings a level of athleticism and experience on the perimeter we felt we needed to continue building a championship culture,” said Stoehr. “She is a tremendous student and has high expectations for herself in the classroom. "
“NSU has great coaches who care about their players on and off the court,” said Rogers. “It also has one of the best nursing programs around.”
While at Jacksonville she won the Lum Newburn IV Memorial Award, was member of Phi Theta Kappa, named to the National Honor Society, and was a National Junior College Athletic Association Academic Excellence All-American
Breonna O'Conner of Ville Platte (Ville Platte HS), Robin Richardson of Independence (Ponchatoula HS), Kourtney Pennywell of Shreveport (Southwood HS), Beatrice Attura of McKinney, Texas (Frisco Liberty HS), and Amy Staha of Pflugerville, Texas (Pflugerville HS) signed with the Lady Demons in November. Emily Spector of Keller, Texas (Timber Creek HS) signed in April, and Presley Owens of Vancleave, Miss (Vancleave HS/Mississippi Gulf Coast), joined earlier this week.
