BATON ROUGE – The Northwestern State baseball team opens a two-game, midweek set with Southern University on Cox Spots Television at 6 o'clock on Tuesday night in non-conference action.
The second game of the series is on Wednesday at 3:00 and will be on 100.7 KZBL in Natchitoches. Both games are in a nine-game stretch on the road for the Demons.
NSU (11-33, 2-16 Southland) has lost 12 of its last 14 games, including two conference sweeps at the hands of Lamar and Sam Houston, who are tied for the conference lead.
Southern (19-18, 14-10 Southwestern Athletic) goes into the game with six wins in its last eight contests.
NSU will start right-handed pitcher
Ashton Sivigliano (2-1, 4.85 ERA) on Tuesday night, and he will oppose righty Camilo Godoy (1-3, 5.65 ERA).
The last time Sivigliano started a midweek game was in March when Northwestern State faced Louisiana-Monroe. He pitched five innings and allowed one earned run on five hits, four walks, and four strikeouts.
Will Watson continues to be NSU's leading hitter with a .311 batting average with 19 runs batted in.
Kevin Williams leads the Jaguars at the plate with a .337 average. Jose DeLa Torre (23), Caleb Hatcher (21), and Marcus Tomlin (20) each have 20 or more RBI for Southern.
Last season, the two programs met in a three-game, weekend series, and Southern took the set winning two games.
NSU will get back to conference play on Friday at 6:30 in Nacgodoches, Texas with Stephen F. Austin. The Demons will return home to play the final regular season series of the year against Oral Roberts on May 16.
