                    Box Score NATCHITOCHES –Defense and the Northwestern State bullpen faltered as Lamar's starting pitcher Jonathan Dziedzic threw eight scoreless innings in an 8-2 complete-game win over the Demons Friday night in Southland Conference action.
 
Dziedzic (6-1) gave up two runs in the first inning, but finished the game with eight shutout innings and allowed only six base runners in those eight innings on 140 pitches. The Demons' bullpen allowed six runs and the defense collected four errors that allowed two unearned runs.
 
The go-ahead run came in the seventh inning on a Jude Vidrine single to right field that scored Sam Bumpers, who's score was unearned because he reached on an error by 
Edwin Gomez.
 
They added insurance runs in the four-run eighth inning and finished the scoring with a run in the ninth inning.
 
Three runs scored on a Zack Luevanos single and error by 
Will Watson in center field. Jake Sutton and Garret Autrey scored from third and second bases, and Aaron Olivas scored all the way from first.
 
Autrey scored the final run in the ninth on a Luevanos double down the left line.
 
Gomez and 
Toby Cornejo reached base on back-to-back bunt singles in the first inning, and advanced a base on a wild pitch. Gomez scored on a Watson groundout to the right side, and Cornejo scored on a 
Todd Wallace single through the left side.
 
Lamar scored their first run on a Darian Johnson groundout that scored Luevanos from third base, and Seth Dornak tied the game in the sixth on an error by Cornejo.
 
Cody Butler started the game for the Demons and allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings of work with five hits and two walks. 
Ashton Sivigliano (2-1) was tagged after he allowed the go-ahead run score without recording an out.
 
Andrew Adams pitched three innings and gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk.
 
Luevanos was three-of-five at the plate with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Dornak had two hits in four at-bats with one run scored.
 
Todd Wallace was two-of-three at the plate and had an RBI.
 
Saturday's game will begin at 4:00, and the final game will be played on Sunday at 1 o'clock.
