Box Score NATCHITOCHES – Justin Stawychny's double that scored two runs in the 10th inning gave Louisiana-Monroe a 4-2 win over the Northwestern State baseball team Friday night in non-conference action.

Steven Spann (1-1) came into the game in the 10th inning to relive Robert Baker, the Northwestern State (7-8) starter who pitched a solid nine innings and allowed only two runs on five hits.

ULM's (8-5) Dalton Herrington led off the 10th frame with a single to right field, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jeff Fuller. After Logan Fiasco flied out to right, Brandon Alexander was walked.

Both Herrington and Alexander scored on the double from Stawychny down the left field line that rolled to the wall.

Louisiana-Monroe had a chance to take the lead in the ninth inning when Alexander hit a triple down the right field line, but Baker worked out of it without allowing a run across. He immediately struck out Chris Dudley, and intentionally walked Corben Green, who homered in the first inning to open the game. After a wild pitch that sent Green to second, Baker intentionally walked Taylor Abdalla to load the bases.

Kodie Tidwell hit a dribbler to first basemen Todd Wallace who threw the ball to the plate for the second out, and the third out came on a strike out to Judd Edwards.

“That's the stuff memories are made of,” said head coach Lane Burroughs. “We're in a no doubles defense and they slip one past us with nobody out and they can't score. That's big time college baseball, Friday night pitching.

“Bobby deserved a better fate tonight” he said. “Our hitters didn't it done, but he showed he was a big time pitcher.”

The Warhawks added a second run in the second frame when Edwards scored on a Fuller double down the right line.

The score would remain the 2-0 until the NSU half of the seventh inning when Edwin Gomez reached on a walk and later was scored on a Matt Famer sacrifice fly to left field.

The Demons tied it up in the eighth inning when Matt Burns, who reached on a hit by pitch, scored when Matt Baca hit a ball to the right side.

Carey Taylor started on the mound for the Warhawks and worked 6.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits. Shelby Aulds (2-1)took the win on 3.2 innings pitched and one run on two hits.

NSU will return to action in a double-header at Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday at 2 o'clock. The Demons will return to Brown-Stroud Field on March 22 to open conference season with Southeastern Louisiana.
