Box Score NATCHITOCHES -- Northwestern State junior forward DeQuan Hicks, who led the Demons to the NCAA Tournament as the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, was voted to the All-District 23 Team chosen by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and announced Tuesday.

Hicks, a 6-7 native of Racine, Wisc., and a transfer from New Mexico Community College, made the 10-man all-district team from a ballot including players from the Southland and Southwestern Athletic Conferences. He was among six Southland players picked by NABC members from those two conferences.

A second-team selection, Hicks led NSU with a 14.0 scoring average and ranks 11th nationally with his 58.3 percent shooting aim. He also topped the Demons with a 5.9 rebounding average and sank 70 percent of his free throws.

Hicks missed three games with a hairline fracture in his foot, but returned to stand out in NSU's three postseason contests. He made the All-Tournament Team as the Demons won the Southland Conference Tournament title and was the Demons' leading scorer in their NCAA Tournament loss to Florida.

First-team NABC All-District 23 picks were Taylor Smith of Stephen F. Austin, Damen Bell-Holter and Warren Niles of Oral Roberts, Brandon Fortenberry from Southeastern Louisiana, and Omar Strong of Texas Southern.

Joining Hicks on the second team were Southern's Derick Beltran and Malcolm Miller, Fred Hunter of Nicholls State, and Demarquelle WTabb of Alabama A&M.

There were 24 all-district teams comprising 242 Division I student-athletes spotlighted by the NABC.
