NORMAN, Okla. – The Northwestern State baseball team will open its final non-conference weekend series Friday at 6:30 when the Demons take on Oklahoma in L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Northwestern State (9-10) comes into the series after being swept by Texas Christian in a two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday. Oklahoma (14-4) will enter the series after sweeping New Mexico State 8-0 and 3-2.
The Demons will start
Robert Baker (2-0, 2.52 ERA) on the mound for the Friday matchup. Baker threw nine innings in his last outing on his way to a no decision; NSU dropped the game against Louisiana-Monroe in 10 innings.
The Sooners will put Jonathan Gray (3-1, 2.03) on the mound for the series-opener.
Matt Oberste, who has a .448 batting average with 30 hits and 25 runs batted in, leads OU at the plate. He has six doubles, two triples, and five home runs.
He is the only batter in the Sooner lineup that hits over .300, but Max White, Kolbey Carpenter, Hector Lorenzana, and Garrett Carey all hit .280 or above.
Will Watson (.362) and
Cort Brinson (.302) leads NSU in hitting. Watson has 13 runs batted in and Brinson is tied for third on the team in RBI with eight.
Nick Purdy and
Todd Wallace each have eight, right behind
Matt Baca with nine.
Saturday's game will start 2:00, and Sunday's will be played at 1 o'clock.
After this three-game set, the Demons will play a single, midweek game at LSU and then return home to open Southland Conference play with Southeastern Louisiana.
