LAKE CHARLES – The Northwestern State women's basketball team will continue its road trip Sunday at 1:30 when it travels to play McNeese State in the Lake Charles Civic Center in Southland Conference action.
NSU (7-12, 3-6 SLC) beat the Cowgirls (11-9, 6-3 SLC) 64-62 in the first conference game of the year on Jan. 3 when freshman Janelle Perez hit a 3-pointer with 4.5 seconds on the clock to knock off the preseason favorite.
McNeese defeated Stephen F. Austin 66-60 on Wednesday to give them a three-game win steak, and five victories in its last six contests.
Lamar took down NSU on Thursday when Dominique Edwards tied her career-high in points with 21 and only 27.5 percent shooting from the Lady Demons.
“I think our kids are ready and excited to play McNeese again,” said co-head coach Brooke Stoehr.  “They're still the champions until somebody knocks them off, and we have a lot of respect for McNeese and job that the coaching staff has done.”
McNeese is the two-time defending league champion.  The Cowgirls are led in scoring by Ashyln Baggett (17.8 points per game) and defending SLC Player of the Week Caitlyn Baggett (14.1 ppg).
Cecilia Okoye was the leading point getter against NSU in the first game.  She scored 18 and grabbed seven rebounds; she was the only Cowgirl in double-figures.
Three Lady Demons scored in double-figures against McNeese including Jasmine Upchurch (19), Keisha Lee (16), and Janelle Perez (12).  Upchurch leads NSU in scoring this season with 11.8 scores a contest.  Perez averages 10.2 and Lee 10.1 on the year.
NSU will return home Thursday for the annual Chili Cook-off at Prather Coliseum when the Lady Demons take on conference newcomer Oral Roberts at 5:30.
