NATCHITOCHES –
Trudy Armstead, Northwestern State's leading scorer and rebounder, will lead the women's basketball team Monday night in a non-conference matchup with Jackson State at 7 o'clock in Prather Coliseum.
Armstead scored 26 points against Savannah State in NSU's (3-2) 77-56 win on Nov. 23. She averages 18.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game; her scoring average ranks her a 92
nd in the nation.
She already has two 20-plus points games this season.
Keisha Lee, who averages 17 points per game, joins Armstead as the only two Lady Demons with double-figure scoring averages.
Jackson State (1-5) comes in with two players that have double-digit averages; Ayanna Hardy-Fuller has 11.5 points per game, just ahead of Alisa Ross who has 11.2 points a contest.
The game marks the 10
th meeting between the two programs, and Northwestern State holds a 6-3 advantage.
JSU has faced one Southland Conference program in Houston Baptist so far this season, and won that contest at home. The Tigers average 63.3 points and turn the ball over 26.5 times per game.
The Lady Demons average 66.2 points per game this season, 10 more points than they averaged at six-game mark a year ago. The 11.8 turnovers per game average is seven less than a year ago.
NSU will put its perfect home record on the line Monday night, and have a chance for 3-0 at home for the first time since 2010-11.
Monday's contest will be the last time the Lady Demons play in Prather Coliseum for 15 days when they host Arkansas-Monticello. They will travel to Arkansas on Saturday and in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Louisiana Tech on Nov. 11.
