Volleyball concludes 2013 regular season at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After playing in front of the program's largest crowd Tuesday night, the Northwestern State volleyball team will wrap-up the 2013 regular season on the road for a one o'clock contest at Southland Conference rival Stephan F. Austin Saturday afternoon at Shelton Gym.
 
Despite dropping a 3-1 heart-breaker to regular season champs Central Arkansas Tuesday night, the Lady Demons (18-11 overall, 14-3 SLC) boast the program's best Southland run in program history.
 
The Ladyjacks (16-14, 8-9) won three straight, including a snap in Southeastern's four-game win streak with a shutout last Thursday, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Oral Roberts Tuesday night. 
 
Northwestern State defeated SFA 3-1 earlier this season in Natchitoches for their second win over the program in the past two years. 
 
Five-time Southland Defensive Player of the Week and SLC digs leader, Keelie Arneson digs up 5.38 digs per set to rank 18th in the nation. Freshman Ashley Elrod knocks down 2.91 kills per set from the pin to hold 14th in the conference, while Vanessa Coleman has hit individual bests multiple times this season and ranks seventh in the Southland in hitting percentage with a .291 average.
 
Glynna Johnson and Emily Johnson lead from the middle, putting up .93 blocks per set and 5.52 assists per set, respectively. Mackenzie Neely and Elrod slap .33 and .26 service aces per set to hold fifth and 14th in the Southland, respectively.
 
Jill Ivy sits 11th in the league and leads SFA with 3.05 kills per set while putting up 62 total blocks, followed by Jacque Allen with 2.32 kills per set. Setter Paige Holland dishes out 8.29 assists per set, a 10th place mark in the Southland. Allen and Justice Walker hold fourth and 13th in blocks with 1.15 and .81 per set, respectively.
    
Libero OJ Olson ranks third in the SLC in digs with 4.92 per set, while dropping .29 service aces per set to note a tie for 11th in the league with Houston Baptist's Jessica Wooten.
 
The 2013 Southland Conference Tournament, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, will begin Nov. 22 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Tournament seedings will be official after Saturday's league matches have been completed.
