Box Score NATCHITOCHES – A massive comeback in the second set of Saturday's match allowed the Northwestern State volleyball team to remain undefeated in Prather Coliseum with a 3-1 (22-25, 27-25, 25-17, 25-21) win over Southland Conference foe Nicholls State.

The Lady Demons win their third in a row and improve to 10-9 overall, 6-1 in the SLC as the Colonels fall to 5-14, 2-7.

"We're really happy to come away with two wins this week," said fourth year co-head coach Hugh Hernesman. "We got a little stressed with both matches as both opponents played well in our gym, but we'll take wins whenever we can get them."

A few rough setting errors in the first set allowed Nicholls to jump out to a 1-0 lead and give them an 18-10 lead in the second. NSU went on a five and six-point run to come within one and force a Nicholls timeout.

An attack error by Mikayla Miller allowed the Lady Demons to tie the game at 24 and go on a three-point run for the eventual 27-25 final.

The Colonels put up another lead in the third set with a quick five-point run. NSU then tacked on three in a row and tied the game at nine. The Lady Demons slowly chipped away and took an eventual 21-14 lead at the end of a four-point run.

NSU sealed the win in the fourth with complete control throughout the entire set. Nicholls gave a little bit of a scare toward the end of the set with two ties until the Lady Demons put up three straight for the eventual win.

Setter Natalie Jaeger notched her second double-double of the season with 18 assists and 15 digs. Mackenzie Neely registered a .471 attack percentage with nine kills, a team-high two service aces and three blocks. Caiti O'Connell led with 14 kills, followed by Ashley Elrod with 11 kills and nine digs.

"This is the second straight match where Mackenzie has really pulled it out," said Hernesman. "It was a great effort by her and it established some consistency for us."

Libero Keelie Arneson dug up 18 Colonel attacks to lead the defense.

The Lady Demons hit the road next week for matches at Houston Baptist on Thursday at 7:00 and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at two o'clock. NSU will support breast cancer awareness month with "Dig Pink" matches on Oct. 24 and 26 against Lamar and Sam Houston State, respectively.
