NATCHITOCHES –
Albert Gladney and
Mitch Landry led the Northwestern State Demon cross country to a second place overall finish at the Demon Invitational 5K Saturday morning at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.
Other teams competing alongside the Demons and Lady Demons were Louisiana Tech, Louisiana College, LeTourneau University, LSU-Shreveport, East Texas Baptist, Northwood University, Southeastern Oklahoma State and Wiley College.
"The team did really well overall today," said first year head coach Amy Guinn. "I was satisfied with how everyone did and we are looking good as a team."
Wiley College garnered first place accolades in the men's race while Southeastern Oklahoma ran away with first place on the women's side, both putting four runners in the top-10 of each race.
Gladney and Landry recorded second and fifth place results with times of 16:08.2 and 16:18.5.
Jeremy Elliot crossed next for the Demons in 17:03.8, followed by
Clay Harris (17:33.9) and
Lucas Moncla (17:37.5).
Skylor Reese rounded out NSU in 18
th place with a time of 18:05.
Asah James and
Maya Robertson competed for NSU on the women's side, finishing in 26
th and 28
th place with times of 24:11.4 and 24:21.6, respectively. Robertson's time is noted as a season-best.
Both teams will compete at the Southland Conference Championships in Lake Charles on Nov. 12 with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 15 in Waco, Texas.
