HUNTSVILLE, Tex. – After an upset win over McNeese State and a three-point loss to Lamar, the Northwestern State women's basketball team will open a three-game road swing starting with Sam Houston Monday night for a 5:30 tipoff.
The Lady Demons (5-7, 1-1 SLC) hit a last second shot to beat McNeese 64-62 Thursday and fell just short of a 10-point comeback with less than a minute to play in a 71-68 loss to Lamar, who is tied for the most wins in the Southland Conference, Saturday afternoon.
Sam Houston (5-8, 1-0 SLC) defeated Texas A&M- Corpus Christi 65-46 Friday night. NSU holds a 34-15 record in the all-time series and a 6-4 advantage over the last 10 games. The Bearkats took the game 80-64 in Huntsville a season ago.
Both NSU and Sam Houston have two players that average in double-digits points.
Jasmine Upchurch leads the Lady Demons with 11.7 a game and Janelle Perez follows with 10.4 a contest. Upchurch leads the team in rebounds with 6.5 and Perez leads in assists with 3.3.
Britni Martin leads the Bearkats with 17.4 points a game and Sequeena Thomas averages 13.3 points. Thomas averages 12.0 rebounds a game.
It will be the third game in five days for the Lady Demons and third of five in a 10-day stretch. NSU takes on Oral Roberts Thursday at 5 p.m. and Central Arkansas Saturday at 2 o'clock.
