NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State tennis player
Polina Konop was named Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week following her performance at LSU, the conference office announced Tuesday.
“This is a very nice honor for Polina,” said Lady Demon tennis head coach
Patric DuBois. “She played great singles and doubles this past weekend.”
Konop took down LSU's Mary Jeremiah, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), at the No. 2 position in singles competition. The junior then went on to defeat the Lady Tiger duo of Ariel Morton and Jeremiah, 8-7 (7-4), in doubles play with partner
Natalya Krutova.
Konop's victories nearly led the Lady Demons to an upset; however, they came up short, falling 4-3 to the No. 45 LSU squad.
Konop and the NSU squad host their first home match of the season on Friday against Abilene Christian. The match is set for 1 p.m. at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
