NSU visits Southern on Wednesday

BATON ROUGE – Northwestern State will look to put an end to a six-game skid on Wednesday when it visits Southern at 6 in college baseball action.
 
The Demons (2-9) are coming off a three-game weekend sweep at the hands of Missouri State while Southern (8-3), has won five straight and is coming off a weekend sweep over Texas Southern.
 
Junior left-handed pitcher Jacob Williford (0-0, 7.94 ERA) will be making his first start and fifth appearance of the season.  Williford has thrown 5.2 innings and has four strikeouts.
 
Offensively, the Demons are hitting just .229 as a team while opponents are batting .282.
 
Nick Hinojos tops the squad with a .349 batting average to go along with a team-high two home runs and nine RBI.  Will Watson, who hit over .500 in the weekend series against Missouri State, has increased his average to .318 with two doubles, a triple and three RBI.  He tops the team with five multi-hit games.
 
Southern, who took two out of three games against the Demons two weekends ago, is batting .269 as a team and is led by Brian Rowry's .438 average.
 
The Jaguars will start Pedro Fargas (1-1, 7.27) on the mound.
 
Following Wednesday's game, the Demons return home to open Southland Conference play against McNeese State beginning on Friday at 6:30.
