BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Northwestern State lines up this weekend as part of a big field at the Vulcan Invitational indoor track and field meet hosted by Alabama-Birmingham at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Competition begins Friday with most events staged Saturday. Next Friday's LSU Twilight meet is the last action for the NSU teams before the Feb. 24-25 Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
In the latest conference performance lists, Lady Demon
Erin Knox has the Southland's third-best women's 60 meter hurdles time (8.60). The 8.26 time by P.J. Bennett ranks fourth in the men's 60 meter hurdles.
NSU's
Quiana Griffin is fifth in the women's 200 meter dash with a 25.26 clocking. She ranks seventh in the 400 (57.83).
Also fifth:
Sarah Jones, with an 18-7 ¼ long jump, and
Keona Jackson's 55-9 ¼ weight throw best. Right behind Jackson are teammates
Chantel Bratton (sixth, 53-11) and
Janae Allen (seventh, 52-9 ¼). Bratton (44-11 ¾) and Jackson (44-9 ½) rank 6-7 in the women's shot put.
Kendal Taylor is fifth in the 200 (22.04), with
Wayne Douglas holding the same ranking in the triple jump (48-6 ¼). Teammate
Emmanuel Williams is eighth (46-8).
Lawana Perkins has the SLC's sixth-best time, 2:16.52, in the women's 800. The Demons' distance medley relay foursome ranks sixth with a 10.39.04 clocking.
Trey Hatton is eighth in the men's 60 at 6.93. NSU's
Mark Dotson is eighth in the 5000 (15:45.03).
