NATCHITOCHES--  Northwestern State will open its 2012-13 home basketball slate Monday when the Lady Demons host Alcorn State at 7 o'clock in Prather Coliseum.
The Lady Demons (1-0) are coming off a 53-52 win at New Orleans in the season opener Friday night. It was the first career win for new co-head coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr.
In the game, freshman Markeshia Johnson had 13 points while sophomore Jasmine Bradley scored 12 in her return to the court after missing much of last season with a knee injury.
Alcorn State (0-1) lost its season opener at Southern Methodist 76-46 Saturday. Tierro Frost was the points leader in the game for the Lady Braves scoring 15.
The Lady Demons forced 22 turnovers against the Lady Privateers while only giving up the ball 14 times.  Nine of the NSU turnovers came in the first half.
Another key to Northwestern State's win was 18 offensive rebounds, six of them them by Bradley.
Last season Alcorn State defeated NSU 70-60 in the Southeastern Louisiana Classic and in 2010-11 the Lady Braves took the contest 66-64.  Northwestern State had won the five previous battles.
After Monday, the Lady Demons will return to the court when they travel to Ole Miss Friday.
