Simonova advances to championship bracket at Ragin' Cajun Classic

LAFAYETTE – Northwestern State freshman tennis player Daniela Simonova was the only Lady Demon to advance to the singles championship bracket after the first day of competition Friday at Louisiana-Lafayette's Ragin' Cajun Tennis Classic.
 
Simonova went up against McNeese State's Diana Pirciu in the first round of the Gumbo Flight and advanced to the championship bracket of the next round after winning 6-4, 6-0.
 
In the second round of singles play the freshman took down Iona Teu of Arkansas State 6-3, 6-4.
 
Andrea Nedorostova and Olga Leyshyna also competed for NSU. Nedorostova fell to Lamar's Carolina Salas 3-6, 6-2, (5) in the first round of singles play. She went on to defeat Southeastern Louisiana's Reginka Nychtailova in the second round 6-3, 6-2.
 
Leyshyna went 0-2 for the day, dropping her first singles match to Arkansas State's Biljana Milosevska 6-1, 6-1. She was defeated by McNeese's Lara Pujol in the second round 6-4, 7-5.
 
Leyshyna and Simonova dropped NSU's only doubles match of the day, 8-6, to ULL's Sandra Ahlqvist and Melissa Burckhartt.
 
The Lady Demons will continue play on Saturday.
