HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Polina Konop led the way for the Northwestern State tennis team as they competed in the first day of the Southern Mississippi Halloween Classic on Friday.
 
Konop took two singles victories for the day, overcoming Mississippi State's Carla Suga 6-3, 6-3 and Nicholls State's Marie Aubert 6-3, 7-6.
 
Tatiana Larina split matches, defeating Sophie Van Den Aarssen of Louisiana-Lafayette 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Nicholls' Parija Maloo in three sets 6-1, 6-7, 10-6.
 
Olga Leyshyna also competed for the Lady Demons but fell in both matches.
 
In doubles play, Larina and Konop defeated Lamar's duo of Salas and Czudek 8-6.
 
The NSU squad continues competition on Saturday.
