NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State Lady Demon basketball team attended the Women's Resource Gala held at the Natchitoches Convention Center to serve as event staff that included help taking up tickets and serving the attendees dinner.

The event gathered men and women from the local community to talk about preventative help for women and featured Carey Casey, author of 21-Day Dad's Challenge.

“Having our players be a part of such a special evening for the Women's Resource Gala is tremendous for our program,” said new co-head coach Brooke Stoehr. “Anytime we have the opportunity to teach these young ladies what it means to serve other and put others before ourselves we will grow as individuals and as a program.”

Casey addressed the audience about the importance of teaching young men to wait until marriage before engaging activities with young women.

The Lady Demons took the opportunity to meet and greet with the participants from Natchitoches as they took tickets at the door and served dinner..

“Our players really enjoy getting out in the community and meeting people.  Part of our belief system is to teach our players to be 'givers' and not 'takers,'” said Stoehr. “We all benefit so much more when we serve others and make someone else smile.

“The organization does so much for young women in need, and we are happy to be supportive of a group such as this,” she said.

The Lady Demons open their season Friday, Nov. 9 on the road at the University of New Orleans.  NSU was picked to finish 10th in the conference preseason polls by coaches and sports information directors.
