NATCHITOCHES -- After posting the league's best shot put mark last weekend, Northwestern State senior Trecey Rew was named the Southland Conference women's track and field athlete of the week, the league announced Wednesday.

Rew, a native of Garland, Texas, threw 52-3 3/4 in a star-studded field last weekend at the Bobby Lane Invitational hosted by Texas-Arlington. That mark is best in the Southland Conference this season and 11th-best in the nation, and earned her a fourth place in the meet. She also placed third in the discus with a heave of 171-3, shy of of her nationally fourth-ranked season's best of 174-8.

Rew will compete in both events this weekend at the Texas Relays and will be at home next weekend for The Leon Johnson NSU Invitational on Saturday, April 16 at the Walter Ledet Track Complex.
