NATCHITOCHES -- Northwestern State All-America shot putter Trecey Rew and Demons' high jumper Greg Hall were elected to the 2010 Southland Conference Cross Country/Track and Field All-Academic Team announced Monday.

Rew, a junior from Garland, Texas, has a 3.86 grade point average in journalism. Hall, a junior from Alexandria and Bolton High School, has a 3.70 GPA in health and exercise science. They were among 48 men and women around the conference voted to the team.

Rew became an All-American at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships, with a ninth-place finish two weeks ago in Eugene, Ore. She was also a national meet qualifier in the discus, after winning the NCAA East (regional) championship in that event with school record 179-0 throw, but did not place at the national meet.

The 2010 Southland Conference Championships High Point Scorer among women, posting 26 points, Rew won the shot put by more than six feet, the discus by over 21 feet and finished third in the hammer throw.  She was voted by league coaches as the conference's female Field Events Athlete of the Year.

Her 2010 best marks ranked her sixth nationally in shot put (54-11 ¼) and 10th in the discus (179-0). She was Academic All-District VI, second team. Her year began with the 2010 SLC Indoor shot put championship after she redshirted in 2009 due to a foot injury.

Rew also was the 2008 SLC Indoor shot put champion and 2008 SLC Outdoor discus champion. She  will compete this weekend at the 2010 USA Championships in shot put and discus.

Hall finished eighth at the 2010 Southland Conference Indoor Championships by matching his personal record with a 6-6 ¾ clearance. Injuries sidelined him for part of the outdoor season this spring, although he had a new personal best with a 6-7 clearance for second on May 1 at NSU Invitational. He did not clear a height at the Southland Outdoor Championships.
