Almond, a Bossier City product, was a four-year All-Louisiana pick from 1975-78 as a record-setting receiver under coach A.L. Williams. Almond was the last player chosen in the 1979 NFL Draft, selected by the eventual Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, and made it until the final cut on a team including future Pro Football Hall of Fame receivers Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. The 1975 Louisiana "Freshman of the Year," Almond is third all-time at Northwestern with 95 career receptions and ranks fifth in career receiving yards (1,562). His 10-reception performance against Louisville in 1978 ranks third-best in school history.
