A walk-on center on the football teams of Coach Harry Turpin until enlisting in the U.S. Army at the outset of World War II, Steen’s induction stemmed from his long-standing, generous support of N-Club functions over a half-century until his passing … the Opelousas native received a Purple Heart, an Oak Leaf Cluster and was nominated for a Silver Star as a heroic officer in the European Theatre.
