NSU’s first All-America basketball selection in 1941, picked on the second team after his inspiring performance at the NAIA Tournament in Kansas City … stood just 5-foot-4, leading NSU to a 17-2 mark and the semifinals of the SIAA Tournament … his No. 5 jersey is retired … NSU recorded a 52-8 mark in Thomas’ three varsity seasons with a Louisiana Intercollegiate Championship in 1940 with a 19-2 mark … also competed in track as a sprinter and hurdler … followed the legendary H. Lee Prather as basketball coach, guiding the Demons to a 138-77 mark in seven seasons (1951-57) … won consecutive Gulf States titles in 1953-54 and 1954-55 with marks of 23-9 and 20-9 … he later served as a scout for the New York Knicks and as an NSU vice president … member of Louisiana Basketball HOF and Louisiana Sports Halls of Fame … Top 100 Demons of the Century roster member for squad picked in 2012-13 basketball centennial.
