AUSTIN, Texas – On the final day of the 90
th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Northwestern State track & field put its best foot forward.
NSU made the most of its three events, cracking the school record books in every outing.
The most impressive effort came from the Lady Demon 4x200 relay team of Braneshia Payton,
De'Shalyn Jones,
Natashia Jackson and
Tamara Style.
The squad bested the former school record of 1:37.22 by almost two full seconds with their time of 1:35.70 to finish fifth overall at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Payton, a junior from Tyler, Texas, replaced All-American
Daeshon Gordon on the 4x2 team, but Gordon found herself in the Lady Demon top-five anyway with her performance in the 100-meter hurdles.
Gordon, who hails from Pompano Beach, Florida, claimed the second-fastest 100H time in Lady Demon history with her mark of 13.38 to take fifth place.
Not to be outdone, the Demons All-American sophomore,
Micah Larkins, ran a season-best 100-meter dash in 10.20 to win bronze and claim the third-best mark in school history.
After putting its stamp on one of the most prestigious meets in the country, the NSU track & field teams will head to Waco, Texas, on April 8 for the Baylor Invitational.
