FT. MYERS, Fla.—The Northwestern State tennis team picked up two singles wins and one doubles victory in its second day of competition at the Florida Gulf Coast Eagle Invitational at Sunday.
“We all played better today with improvements all around,” said Lady Demon head coach Patric Dubois. “Tatiana (Larina) and Andrea (Nedorostova) have played very well this weekend and, although she has come up short in the wins column, Polina (Konop) has played some very good tennis.”
Sophomore Larina defeated Alexandra Sheeran of Liberty in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 in the first flight of singles play. NSU's
Natalya Krutova also grabbed a win for the Lady Demons, taking down Iowa State's Meghan Cassens, 6-1, 6-2.
Nedorostova,
Polina Konop,
Daniela Simonova and
Vanja Bogetic also competed in singles for the Lady Demons.
In doubles play, Larina and Nedorostova outlasted Northern Florida's Taylor Hollander and Rebeca Pereira 8-6.
NSU's Konop and Krutova fell to Iowa State's Jenna Langhorst and Caroline Andersen 8-4 in the first flight of doubles and Simonova and Bogetic fell to ISU's Ortiz and Waites 8-1 in the third flight.
“We are gaining strong match play this weekend every day which was our main concern to prepare us for a very tough schedule this spring,” said Dubois.
Larina and Nedorostova will continue doubles play on Monday in the championship match of their flight.
