Lady Demons compete well in day one of ITA Southern Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Northwestern State tennis team had a great first day of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Tournament on Friday as three athletes won singles matches and both doubles teams took victories.
 
Tatiana Larina took two wins for the day, defeating Jackson State's Angie Condorelli 6-2, 6-1 in the first round and Auburn's Jen Pfeifler 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 in the second round.
 
Polina Konop took down Silvia Tomova of Louisiana-Monroe 7-5, 6-3 in the first round before falling to Tulane's Klara Vsykocilova 6-3, 6-1.
 
Freshman Daniela Simonova overcame Laura Rojas of Jackson St. 7-5, 6-3 but could not handle Tulane's Emma Helisten, losing 6-3, 6-1.
 
Andrea Nedorostova was defeated by Auburn's Plamena Kurteva 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of single competition.
 
In doubles play, Larina and Nedorostova took down Elster and Birol of Tulane 8-4.
 
The duo of Konop and Simonova were also victorious, beating Alabama-Birmingham's Daniel and Moolman 9-7.
 
The Lady Demons continue play in the ITA Southern Regional Tournament Saturday morning at nine o'clock.
