TUSCON, Ariz. – Northwestern State cornerback Jeremy Lane won Defensive Player of the Game honors Monday night by making 8 tackles and breaking up a pass in the Casino Del Sol College Football All-Star Game, involving NFL Draft eligible seniors from around the country including players from LSU, Penn State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Baylor, Arizona and many more.

Lane drew rave reviews from coaches for both teams, former Arkansas and Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt and former Fresno State head coach Pat Hill, an NFL assistant coach for 15 seasons before taking the Fresno job. The Fox Sports Net Arizona announcing crew repeatedly cited the coaches reporting that Lane had been a standout in practices leading up to the game, and that he looked the part of an NFL Draft pick who could make an NFL roster as a rookie next season.

Lane was a versatile defensive back and special teams factor on kick and punt coverage while lettering four years for NSU. Also a threat on kick blocks, he was regarded as very skilled in press coverage. A physical player who delivered more than his share of big hits in his career, Lane is projected as a possible mid-round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft.

In 43 games for the Demons, Lane had 14 starts, 137 tackles (57 solo), 24 pass breakups, 4 interceptions, and 3 fumble recoveries. In 2011, he was a starter at cornerback in 10 games, missing one with an injury. He made 42 tackles, including 29 solos and a  sack. The Tyler, Texas-John Tyler High School product  had a pair of interceptions, 3 pass breakups, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 fumble forced and 5 quarterback hurries.

His most productive game as far as tackles came at LSU, when he made 9 tackles including a sack of Lee that narrowly missed being a safety.
